The Traitors season 2 'set to return to BBC' - everything we know so far

The Traitors is reportedly coming back for a second season - and it's safe to say viewers will be excited for its return.

Rumours have been swirling that the popular BBC show will be back on our screens a second time, once again set at the Scottish 19th century Ardross Castle, 25 miles north of Inverness.

A show source told The Mirror that the second run is due to start filming in late summer. The first of the UK series, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, followed 22 strangers who were competing to win up to a whopping £120,000 jackpot.

And it had the nation hooked pulling in 4.6 million viewers at one point. But what will happen in the next series? Here is what we know so far.

The Traitors UK - what was season one all about?

The psychological adventure show sees contestants work together to complete tasks in order to add money to their prize fund to reach the £120,000 goal. But if they fail to complete the tasks, the less money they collect and the smaller the cash pot at the end of the show.

Set in the grand castle once again, the contestants are split into two - loyal contestants are known as 'Faithfuls', while not-so loyal people are called the 'Traitors' who try to steal the cash prize.

As the series progresses, people are eliminated from the show by being voted off if fellow cast members think they are a Traitor - with some being 'murdered' by the Traitors themselves. Before the final, they must have voted out all of the Traitors or risk losing all of their money.

The Traitors UK series 2 - when will it return?

The second season is said to begin filming in late summer. A show source told the Mirror: "These days almost every new series is a reboot of something that's gone before.

"So it's really nice to try something fresh - and for it to do well. The Traitors got everyone talking, so bringing it back was a no-brainer. Claudia was perfect."

Applications are currently not open yet however Glaswegians should keep an eye out for when they do open and get applying.

Last year's application stated that as well as needing to be 18 or over in order to apply, you must also:

  • Have the right to legally reside in the UK
  • Be able to film for six weeks during summer - so you will want to ensure this is possible for you and will not clash with your job
  • Not be employed or engaged and have not been previously employed or engaged by any company within the All3media Group and/or the BBC and you are not an immediate relative of an employee of or worker for any company within the All3media Group and/or BBC

Although not open yet, it could be similar requirements for season two.
