Glaswegians issued Scottish Water scam warning as locals urged to ask 'three C's'

Scottish Water have issued a warning on social media to remind people of the 'three C's'.

Taking to Instagram, the corporation told locals - including those in Glasgow - that every day water samples need to be randomly checked in Scotland. This is to ensure that the drinking water we all consume is at its highest quality.

But to make sure households only allow official Scottish Water works to carry out checks, they are urging people to remember three words to avoid being scammed. In order to protect yourself and avoid bogus calls, they have said before they agree to anything, always think 'Card, Check, Call'.

In the video they say: "At Scottish Water we have to do these random tests. The postcodes are computer generated to ensure the quality for the area which will be checked to make sure it is safe for everyone.

"We only do one from that postcode area.

"When we get there [to the address] we'll go and approach the customer's property. We'll then show then our identification card. We encourage the customer to do the three C's.

"Look at the card. Check the card - we don't want them being apprehensive."

They continue: "Most of the time we will turn up with a branded vehicle. The [phone] number is clearly marked on it. Another thing you should also check is is to make sure we are who we say we are and that we're in the proper clothing, clearly marked to say that we are from Scottish Water.

"If you are in any doubt, you are not obliged and you can say no."
