Glaswegians allowed council tax holiday amid ongoing coronavirus crisis

Glasgow City Council is offering help to people suffering financially amid the ongoing coronavirus outbreak by allowing for some flexibility with how they pay their council tax.

Council tax payments are due normally in 10 monthly instalments beginning in April until January.

And although the Council is asking people in Glasgow to make their payments as normal to support important Council services during this difficult time, anyone whose financial circumstances have been impacted can hold off on making payments until June.

The Council has now made it possible to pay council tax by Direct Debit in 10 monthly instalments starting from June 28 to March 28 next year as opposed to paying until January.

Anyone who might benefit from doing so can select the 'Set up a Direct Debit' option at www.glasgow.gov.uk/counciltax.

They should then use the enquiry form on the same web page and select the 'I am unable to pay my bill option' from the first drop down menu.

Then click the 'I wish to defer my instalments to June' option from the second drop down and let the Council know you wish to move your instalments to start in June for this year.

A new bill will be issued before the June instalment is due.

Meanwhile, payments for 2021/22 will revert to the April to January monthly scheme.
