Glaswegian youngster joins police for a day after telling them she was scared of burglars

Kind-hearted police in Drumchapel went an extra mile on their beat recently.

It all started when they received a letter from local youngster Ingrid McGilvery, who told them she'd been feeling scared of people breaking into her home and stealing her favourite toys. 

She asked if they would write back and let her know what they do to protect people in the area.

But quick-thinking officers were determined to alleviate the fears of the four-year-old, so they went one step further.

They invited her into the station with her mum, to show her how they ensure the safety of everyone (including her beloved owl, snake and dinosaur).

After Ingrid and her mum's visit, Ingrid went on her merry way, happy in the knowledge that her top possessions are in safe hands.

And police are now hoping they may have got themselves a new recruit...
