Glastonbury police learn name of woman fatally struck by SUV

GLASTONBURY, Conn. _ Police said they have learned the name of the woman who died after being struck by an SUV while crossing the street in Glastonbury Tuesday night and have turned their attention to alerting her family.

They will not release the woman's name until her relatives and friends are notified of her death, Sgt. Corey Davis said Wednesday afternoon.

The woman was crossing Main Street, or Route 17, in South Glastonbury about 6:30 p.m. when she was hit.

Police didn't know who the woman was and released a detailed description of her, her clothes and items she had with her at the time. It's not clear if the description helped them learn her identity.

The driver, whom police did not identify, stayed at the scene of the collision and cooperated with police, Davis said.

The collision appears to be an accident, he said.

Visibility wasn't good, Davis said. Also, the woman was wearing dark clothes and was not walking in the crosswalk, he said.

"It was dark, it was rainy," Davis said Wednesday.

The street was closed between Hopewell and Foote roads late into the night as police took measurements and gathered evidence.

A regional team of crash investigators, Metro Traffic Services, is helping Glastonbury officers with the investigation, Davis said.
