Glastonbury Festival has promised to feature more female acts on its music line-up this year, following controversy over the lack of women being booked for major events in previous years.
Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis announced they would be “strong on women this year”. She said: “There are loads of great female MCs coming through, which is quite exciting, Little Simz and Lady Leshurr and people like that”.
The festival also aims to increase genre diversity, Ms Eavis added: “It’s always been pretty diverse, but it’s important to think consciously about that when you’re booking.”
In 2014, 3.5 per cent of all acts performing across the UK’s six biggest festivals were all-female bands, compared to 43 per cent all-male bands.
