Glastonbury Festival organisers respond to rumours Sunday's Pyramid Stage lineup will be all female

Glastonbury's organisers have responded to rumours that the Pyramid Stage will only host female acts on the last day of this year's festival.

Today (February 13) respected festival website eFestivals sparked discussion by speculating the Sunday's lineup for the festival's main stage will be all female.

The account tweeted: "There's rumours that Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage will only have female acts on the Sunday.

"Is that going to make anyone's head explode?"

The two acts confirmed to play on the Sunday so far are both female, with American pop sensation Taylor Swift headlining and soul icon Diana Ross announced for the afternoon legends slot.

There was a mixed response to the idea, with some people praising it but others labelling it a 'gimmick'.

One Twitter user wrote: "Terrible idea. Focus on the music, not the gender, colour, etc. This sort of thing does nothing to break down barriers, so much as reinforce old ones and build new ones."

Is there any truth in the rumour?

Those who were in favour of the proposal will be disappointed to hear it is just a rumour and nothing more.

Glastonbury Festival told Bristol Live there are 'no plans' for an all-female lineup on the Pyramid Stage.

A spokesperson said: "Although the two acts we’ve announced for Sunday so far are obviously female - Taylor Swift and Diana Ross - there are no plans for Sunday’s Pyramid line-up to be entirely made up of female acts."

The only other acts to be confirmed for Glastonbury Festival 2020 alongside Diana Ross and Taylor Swift are Paul McCartney and Wolf Alice.

There is plenty of speculation around who the third and final headliner could be, with tipped acts including Coldplay, Bruce Springsteen and Guns N' Roses.

There is an ever-growing list of artists who have self-confirmed for Glastonbury Festival 2020, although these have not been officially confirmed by the festival.
