Glastonbury Festival 2023 fireworks display lights up opening night

A large fireworks display was put on for the thousands of people who have already arrived at Worthy Farm for Glastonbury Festival 2023. Gates opened at the site yesterday (June 21) as revellers swamped the venue for the much-anticipated event.

Thousands more people are expected to arrive at Worthy Farm today ahead of the main acts and stages opening the festival tomorrow. However, those who did decide to pitch their tent on day one were treated to a fireworks display.

The pyrotechnics started shooting up at around 11am as the fireworks lit up the sky above Worthy Farm. The fireworks could be seen around various areas of the site late into the evening.

The main action at this year's festival is due to kick off tomorrow (June 23) with Arctic Monkeys headlining the Pyramid Stage. They will be followed by headline sets on the iconic stage from Guns N' Roses on Saturday and Sir Elton John on Sunday.

Some stages and venues will be open for performances today. These include Stonebridge Bar and The Lonely Hearts Club.

Yesterday, hundreds of traders are welcoming their first customers at Worthy Farm. Along with the many food traders serving up delicious food from around the world, and produce local to Somerset, there are rows of shops packed with eye-catching clothes, accessories and essentials. The biggest, however, is the pop-up Co-op supermarket spanning 6,000 sq ft.

By early this afternoon there was already a long but fast-moving queue to get inside the shop, which is located near the Other Stage and the Park Home Ground. The chain has said it will stock more than 250 traditional supermarket food, drink and other products such as sun cream and medicines, but it won't be selling alcohol.
