Glastonbury fashion: it's all jumpers and headdresses at Worthy Farm

With the weather flip-flopping between sun and rain, what to wear at Glastonbury 2014 is more of a practical question than one of fashion. But, like the sun sneaking out from grey clouds, a trend will creep into every Glastonbury in spite of the forecast. This year a very British failsafe has emerged as the subtle status symbol of Worthy Farm – the festival jumper.

Knitwear – not usually the best in damp conditions – has been spotted amongst the plastic cagoules, walking jackets and braver souls in flimsy tie-dye ponchos. While fuzzy mohair and shredded wool have been popular on the catwalk recently, the jumpers at Glastonbury have more of a loud, Bill Cosby – of The Cosby Show – feel to them. It's a cosy, vintage style statement.

As a three day party, tThere's always a dress-up spirit at Glastonbury and the headdress has been making an impact. The takeup of Native American-style headdresses is controversial, with Chanel under fire from the Sioux Nation after putting similar feathered designs on the catwalk, but the message wasn't received in Somerset..

Trends of past Glastonburys have come from celebrities – see Kate Moss in Hunter wellies in 2005 – but these days street style is where it's at and, with the British weather forever unpredictable, the jumper looks an easy fit to dominate the rest of the festival season.
