Glastonbury cancelled for 2021 as festival faces another enforced fallow year

Glastonbury has been cancelled for a second year, organisers have announced.

The festival is facing another enforced fallow year as a result of the continuing coronavirus crisis, Michael and Emily Eavis said.

The event - which had to be called off last year along with music festivals up and down the country - was due to return to Worthy Farm in Somerset in June.

But the Eavis family said despite trying to 'move heaven and earth' it had become clear it would not be possible to safely stage it.

Announcing the news on Twitter, they said: "With great regret, we must announce that this year's Glastonbury Festival will not take place, and that this will be another enforced fallow year for us.

"In spite of our efforts to move heaven and earth, it has become clear that we simply will not be able to make the festival happen this year. We are so sorry to let you all down."

Festival-goers who secured tickets in October 2019 will be offered the chance to roll over their deposit again and attend the 2022 event.

"We are very appreciative of the faith and trust placed in us by those of you with deposits, and we are very confident we can deliver something really special for us all in 2022," Michael and Emily said.

"We thank you for your incredible continued support and let's look forward to better times ahead."
