Glastonbury 2020: Paul McCartney appears to confirm he's headlining the 50th anniversary festival

Sir Paul McCartney appears to have confirmed he is headlining next year's Glastonbury Festival after months of speculation.

The former Beatles star let the news slip this morning in a cryptic tweet on his official account.

He posted a picture of Phillip Glass, beside Emma Stone and Chuck Berry.

Fans quickly deduced Glass, Stone and Berry meant Glastonbury.

Hot on the heels of ticket sales last month, there's been increasing speculation that the 77-year-old would land a spot on the Pyramid stage.

When asked earlier this year whether he'd be playing the festival, he said: "It's starting to become some remote kind of possibility.

"It's definitely not fixed yet but people are starting to talk about it."

Excited fans have inundated Twitter with the news.

One person wrote: "See you in Pilton next summer!"

Another said: "Ok now I need to somehow magically get a Glastonbury ticket."

Tickets to the 50th anniversary event sold out less than half an hour in early October.
