Glastonbury rumours: Emily Eavis drops two major hints as Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar tipped to headline 2020 festival

A week after confirming Paul McCartney as the first headliner of next year’s Glastonbury, organiser Emily Eavis has dropped two major hints as to who else might top the bill on the Pyramid Stage.

With the Beatles legend booked in to play the festival’s biggest stage on Saturday June 27, two headline slots remain open at Worthy Farm.

Eavis has now revealed that the other two acts will be playing the Somerset festival for the first time ever.

“Interestingly, for the other two headliners its their first time at Glastonbury and we’ve got one male and one female — so there are a couple of clues there,” Eavis told BBC Radio 2. “I’m sure people will guess, so don’t put them to me.”

It has added further fuel to the intense speculation that always surrounds Glastonbury’s headliner announcements.

Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar are currently the odds-on favourites to secure the top spots — and both fit the bill, having never appeared at the festival before.

Another bookies favourite is Elton John, who would also meet the criteria. However, he will be playing in Texas on June 26 and 27, meaning he would have to make a quick transatlantic journey to get back in time for the June 28 slot.

Madonna is another possibility, having never played the festival. She’s got tour dates booked up until March next year, but as it stands, the end of June is free.

We might not have to wait too long to find out the identities of the two headliners, with Eavis suggesting the second major booking could be unveiled “this side of Christmas”.

She added: “Most of it will [announced at] the beginning of 2020. Everyone needs their moment.”
