Glastonbury 2020 cancelled due to coronavirus leaving music fans gutted

Glastonbury 2020 has officially been cancelled due to coronavirus.

After Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned against mass gatherings in his speech to the nation, a number of big events have been pulled including Radio 1's Big Weekend and the Grand National, as well as a whole host of acts postponing or cancelling tours including The Who, Craig David and Riverdance.

And, now just a week after announcing a lineup including the likes of Diana Ross, Taylor Swift and Paul McCartney, Glastonbury organisers have announced this year's event will no longer go ahead.

"We very much hope that the situation in the UK will have improved enormously by the end of June," said Michael and Emily Eavis in a statement.

"But even if it has, we are no longer able to spend the next three months with thousands of crew here on the farm, helping us with the enormous job of building the infrastructure and attractions."

Saying 2020 would now be an "enforced fallow year" for the festival, they apologised for letting fans down.

"We were so looking forward to welcoming you all for our 50th anniversary with a line-up full of fantastic artists and performers that we were incredibly proud to have booked.

"We're so sorry that this decision has been made. It was not through choice. But we look forward to welcoming you back to these fields next year and until then, we send our love and support to all of you."

Other acts set to perform at this year's Glasto included Pet Shop Boys, Sam Fender and Noel Gallagher.
