Glastonbury 2019: Stormzy addresses the haters ahead of headline performance

Stormzy has passionately addressed those who have doubted his credentials as a Glastonbury Festival headliner.

The grime icon appeared on Radio 1Xtra this morning to share details of his new album, including the first track from it, Vossi Bop, which takes aim at Boris Johnson.

The conversation then turned to Glastonbury Festival, where Stormzy is headlining the Pyramid Stage, and the rapper called out critics who have been questioning whether or not he's ready to perform on the world's biggest stage.

While many were happy to see him revealed as the first headliner back in November, it's safe to say the announcement divided opinion.

Speaking to presenter Dotty on her Breakfast Show this morning, Stormzy said: "I got booked last year. If you think I'm going to wait all this time to come to June 28th Friday to come out there and give you a mediocre performance, you've gone crazy.

"That's nothing but shellings, nothing but pure shellings. I can't wait.

"And I love it, I think this is a good stage to be at where it's like as much as I'm the Glastonbury headliner, and it's a blessing, and so many people will say yeah 'You deserve that, and we understand why,' I definitely need that other side of like 'Aw he can't! Why is he doing it?'"

"And it's like yo! If you think I got booked for Glastonbury headline to come there and not give you an iconic headline performance, you've gone crazy."
