Glastonbury 2019: Hour-long queues for water and showers switched off during hottest day of the year

Scores of revellers have taken to social media to blast Glastonbury organisers after queuing for an hour to refill their water bottles and having their showers turned off as temperatures peak at 31C.

It's understood all of Worthy Farm's showers - including ones in the posh glamping area- have been switched off as the event has started to run low on water.

In a bid to reduce its eco footprint, bosses banned plastic bottles from this year's event. Instead people can refill their bottles at designated stations.

But as temperatures soared to a blistering 31C today, festival-goers were forced to stand in hour-long queues to rehydrate.

One person tweeted: "Glastonbury has a water shortage and all of the showers have been shut so people have enough drinking water. I can assure you it smells like it looks."

While another said: "It's 27°c and sweaty at glastonbury and they've just turned off the showers for the weekend because they've used too much water."

And one women said: "I am at Glastonbury and I wish in bed. 35 degrees, next to no shade and a water shortage. My pasty ass cannot cope. Truly jel."

Not all revellers had to stand in long queues, some were lucky enough to be handed water by festival staff who were walking round the event.
