It’s that time of year again, when Glastonbury festivalgoers start crossing their fingers and hoping for a variation on 2010’s blazing sunshine.
Weather forecast predictions this year suggest Worthy Farm may turn sludgy underfoot next week, with drizzle and clouds forecast for Thursday, Friday and Saturday before the possibility of the sun making an appearance on Sunday. Though it’s too early to predict the weather with any certainty, an early look at both Accuweather and the Weather Outlook suggest packing wellington boots and a waterproof jacket if you’d rather not be a sodden, dripping mess by the time Florence + the Machine are warming up on Friday night.
To start with the bad news, early arrivals are due to be met with cloud cover, a bit of rain and temperatures ranging between 10C and 19C on Thursday. Not quite shirtless-in-shorts fare.
On Friday, Accuweather predicts a dry but cool and cloudy day before Saturday may usher in about 3mm of rain. Over on Weather Outlook, prospects look more grim, with rain forecast for both Friday (2mm) and Saturday (0.3mm). On both days, temperatures don’t look set to creep over 19C.
Sunday may, at last, offer up a dry day: Accuweather predicts “considerable clouds” and a peak temperature of 19C, but no rain. Weather Outlook tells a similar story, though its icon looks sunnier and may be reason to hold out hope.
Optimists may find more solace in the BBC’s weather predictions. Though, at the time of writing, they don’t extend as far as the last day of the festival, next Thursday, Friday and Saturday look much brighter and drier than both Accuweather and Weather Outlook’s predictions.
Luckily, the weather looks dry in the lead-up to the event – trudging along before pitching a tent in a mud bath may not be on the cards. Keep those fingers crossed.
