Glass objects banned from Nations League fanzone

PORTO, Portugal (Reuters) - Glasses and glass bottles will be banned from the Nations League fanzone for Sunday's final, police said on Saturday in the wake of trouble involving England supporters earlier this week.

Riot police charged England fans in the centre of the city after beer glasses were thrown in the special fanzone, prompting the English Football Association (FA) to label the supporters an embarrassment.

"Experience shows that glass increases the risks and excesses and for that reason it is considered a risk factor," said police spokesman Mario Pereira.

"We felt it would be in everybody's interests to eliminate this risk factor in areas where there is a high concentration of people."

The Netherlands meet hosts Portugal in Sunday's final in Porto while England face Switzerland in nearby Guimaraes.
