Glasgow yellow weather warning for wind issued as traffic bosses urge caution

A yellow weather warning for strong winds continues in the Glasgow area as drivers have been urged to remain cautious on the roads this morning.

The bad weather conditions have continued this morning after an evening of wind, rain, sleet and in some places, snow.

The yellow weather warning was issued at 3am this morning and will continue until at least 12pm.

Winds at a rate of 40mph are to be expected at round 2pm in Glasgow today.

Traffic bosses are urging drivers to be aware of extra surface water on the roads creating adverse driving conditions and some disruption.

Drivers should drive more slowly and cautiously, plan ahead and try avoiding long journeys if possible.

Met Office bosses have said people can expect:

  • Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
  • Difficult driving conditions and possible delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges

Some flights may also be affected by the bad weather.

Council traffic bosses have put a warning of surface water on roads in 'any direction' in Glasgow city.
