Glasgow workies spark laughter with impromptu wee jig in middle of street

Nothing really lifts the mood more than being able to appreciate Glasgow amid warm sunshine and under blue skies.

And that's certainly true for two Glasgow City Council workies, who were spotted earlier today showing off their dancefloor-worthy moves while performing a wee impromptu jig in the middle of the street.

The pair were recorded by dance artist and community activist Kate E. Deeming, who has become something of a local 'legend' in the south side of the city.

Kate has been taking to the streets over the past few days dressed as the 'Pollokshields Disco Chicken' to spread some good vibes and encourage locals to shake their tushes.

On seeing the Disco Chicken nearby, the workies spontaneously started dancing in the middle of the Pollokshields street, much to the surprise of Kate.

She shared the video on Twitter alongside the caption: "And this is why I love Glasgow, these guys spontaneously started dancing on seeing the Pollokshields Disco Chicken (me!)".

Speaking to Glasgow Live about the video, Kate said: "The project which I'm doing is part of Tramway Beyond Walls. The Pollokshields Disco Chicken involves me doing wee impromptu discos in the morning before heading to schools. So this morning I was just doing a wee warmup in the area and just toured about busting some moves.

"As I was crossing the road I saw that the workies were there and they just started spontaneously pulling some shapes. It was awesome, they were awesome.

"It was everything I love about Glasgow right there in that moment. It was so cool. We had a good groove, it was great."

The Tramway Beyond Walls project sees Kate get up to her usual dance shenanigans with a new outdoor dance project over six weeks involving four local primary schools who will collaborate to make a cumulative dance film.

Speaking about the project, she added: "What's happening is I'm going in and doing dance workshops in schools and I'm training up 150 disco dance 'chicks' or ducklings.

"We are making a film called '10 Seconds of Joy' and its going to be an edited film of 10-second clips of children dancing. It's going to be premiered on a truck that has a large video screen on it that while drive throughout the area on June 3."

Kate has previously featured on Glasgow Live back in January after she was spotted by one local out dancing on the street while dressed as Where's Wally. While a video of shaking her ornaments while dressed as a Christmas Tree - accompanied by the (perfect) soundtrack of Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses - made headlines across the globe after going viral back in December.

We even went as far to suggest that a petition be launched to see the dance activist given the title of 'official smile generator' for Glasgow, and on the basis of the video of the two binmen dancing on the street, she certainly deserves it!
