Glasgow Women's Library extends open invitation for locals to 'keep warm' over winter

A city centre library is extending invites to Glasgow locals to 'spend time and keep warm' in their building.

With temperatures dropping, and the cost of heating your home weighing on everyone's mind, Glasgow Women's Library (GWL) has reminded locals that joining the service is free. With hundreds of books, exhibitions throughout the building and free tea and coffee - it's the perfect place to spend the day.

Posting to their website, GWL said: "Now more than ever, we want to extend a warm welcome to those who are interested in who we are and what we do.

"This is your space, and you are welcome here. You don't need to have a reason to come to GWL to spend time and keep warm - just come in, make yourself comfortable and let staff know if you need any help, staff and volunteers can be identified by the name badges we all wear."

The library offers information on more resourced warm banks nearby, details of other supportive organisations in Glasgow and a community noticeboard detailing what's on elsewhere.

While they don't have public computers, the library does have Wi-Fi and charging facilities. They also offer free period products and accessible, gender neutral bathrooms.

Current exhibitions at GWL include Origin Stories, exploring key points in their grassroots beginnings through archive materials. Also on is the Gathering Stich exhibition, celebrating ways that women can use textiles to speak, protest and build community.

Opening hours are currently 10am until 4.30pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. GWL is also open on Saturday from midday until 4pm.

The library will close for Christmas on December 21, reopening on January 4. You can find out more about GWL and check out their schedule of events here.
