Glasgow woman taking on epic charity challenge in memory of beloved baby niece

Local legend Bernie Hunter is pushing herself to the limit in aid of a very worthy cause.

Bernie's was left devastated in January when her beloved wee niece Freya was tragically born asleep.

And now the determined 24 year-old is doing her bit for the charity which has provided vital help for her loved ones in their darkest of hours.

Bernie, who lives with cerebral palsy, today (Sunday) embarks on an epic five-mile sponsored cycle to raise cash for Simba, which works on behalf of those who have been affected by the loss of a baby during pregnancy or after birth.

And tomorrow, there will be no rest for this inspirational charity champion, as she'll be jumping back up in the morning to take on a sponsored trampoline event (100 bounces for Freya).

said: "On the 3rd of January, my beautiful niece Freya was sadly born asleep.

"My family were devastated by this news as was I, there wasn't anything that anyone could do. It was a heartbreaking time and it still is, the pain of losing a baby never goes away.

"The only thing that we could do is be there for Freya's mum & dad, to support them during and after the tough time... we will always be there for them.

"Now, I want to do a little extra to help other families who have lost a baby...no one should have to go through the experience but it unfortunately happens and it is really important to have the right services available to people when they need support.

"I never got the chance to know my niece but she will always be in my heart.

"As I have Cerebral Palsy, this is going to be a big challenge but I am going to do it."

Simba works to provide memory boxes, hospital rooms, support groups and much more to those who need it.

has already raised an absolutely incredible £1,300 of her £150 target so far.
