Glasgow woman left unable to walk after horror electric scooter accident

A Glasgow woman has warned about the dangers of electric scooters after she was hospitalised and left unable to walk from a horror accident.

Rose Moran spent five days in Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth Hospital last week after going head-first over the handlebars of the electric scooter.

She suffered severe bruising to her face and required stitching across her chin.

Her leg has been fractured and she has been told she will not walk for three to six months.

Rose, 48, told the Record: "I'm basically bed bound and unable to work and I’m on really strong painkillers for six weeks.

"The pain was something I will never forget in a hurry.

"It went really, really fast and I only got a couple of yards before I went right over the handlebars."

Rose believes electric scooters can be dangerous if they are not treated with care and has warned others to be vigilant when using them.

She said: "I think they can be a danger.

"I would hope people would have some sort of training on them. In the wrong hands they would be really, really dangerous.

"I wouldn't want to discourage people from using them but please be really careful."

It comes after Glasgow City Council approved plans for a trial of an e-scooter rental scheme.

The plans are hoped to introduce a more eco-friendly way of getting about the city.

The scooters would have a maximum speed of 15.5mph and users would need to be at least 18-years-old, with a provisional driving licence.

Rose, a support worker, added: "I tried the scooter because I had been considering one for my commute to work from from Springboig in the east of Glasgow to Castlemilk in the southside.

"I don't want to put everyone off but, if you're not clued up then I don't think it’s a good idea.

"Please be extra vigilant and careful."
