Glasgow west end A-listed hotel to be converted into flats under new plans

A west end hotel could be turned into flats under new plans.

Developers have applied for permission to convert the Kelvin Hotel on Buckingham Terrace, just off Great Western Road, into apartments.

The property is currently still operating as a hotel and has been since 2011. 28 bedrooms are contained within but under plans only four duplex flats would be created - two to each block.

The architect John Thomas Rochead is credited with designing Buckingham Terrace and the neighbouring buildings that are notable for their renaissance style detailing and the ornate cast-iron parapets and railings.

Buckingham Terrace was A-listed in 1970 and completely restored to its former elegance in 1975.

The restoration received much acclaim and was commended by the European Communities Architectural Heritage Awards. As a result, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh honoured Buckingham Terrace with a visit, which took place in November 1975. The Terrace stands as a monument to Victorian Architecture.

Plans for the conversion are currently pending consideration by Glasgow City Council.
