Glasgow weather: yellow ice warning for Strathclyde in place until this morning

The Met Office yellow warning for Strathclyde will remain in place until 11AM this morning.

The warning is in place particularly in South Lanarkshire, with icy stretches likely to cause difficult travel conditions.

Weather experts warned the public to expect some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces, and probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

The warning has remained in place since Sunday, and there has been a reported rise in injuries admitted to Glasgow hospital's Minor Injuries Units.

The weather is likely to lead to hazardous driving conditions and Traffic Scotland have confirmed the gritters are out in force in a bid to mitigate the icy conditions.

The cold snap greeted Glasgow over the New Year and has stayed around for the weekend, leading to the city's lochs and ponds freezing over.

Other places under the yellow warning in Scotland include Dumfries and Galloway, East Lothian, Edinburgh, Midlothian Council, Scottish Borders and West Lothian.
