Glasgow weather: When the worst of Storm Dennis will hit this weekend as flood alert issued

It’s safe to say that the UK map is a patchwork of weather warnings this weekend as Storm Dennis approaches.

To top it all off, we can now call it the incoming storm a ‘bomb cyclone’ - coolest name ever, but not exactly promising for your weekend plans, if they involve anything other than Netflix and pyjamas.

So, when will the worst of Dennis hit Glasgow - and what can we expect throughout the weekend?

Well, Saturday brings a yellow weather warning for strong winds and heavy rain between 7am and 8pm, and according to the Met Office right now, that means the worst downpours setting in around 10am and lasting until early evening.

Winds may pick up to nearly 50mph by early afternoon, with the rain drying up for a spell, before picking up again in the evening.

By Sunday, Storm Dennis may ease up on the wet stuff - but there’s a further wind weather warning in place between midday then and noon on Monday, with gusts approaching 60mph and possible disruption to transport as a result.

The Met Office alert reads: “Storm Dennis has the potential to bring very strong winds and transport disruption during Sunday and Monday morning.”

On top of all that, SEPA has issued a flood alert for west central Scotland, taking in Glasgow and the surrounding areas and warning of localised flooding and surface water.

Dennis, what are you doing to us?

In short, it might just be another weekend best suited to staying under the duvet - and with Valentine’s Day in full swing, that might just be your plan anyway.

If you are heading out and about then stay tuned as Glasgow Live will provide all the weather and traffic updates you need throughout Storm Dennis. As ever, if you spot anything going on then let us know on Facebook, Twitter or by joining our traffic and travel Facebook group.
