Glasgow weather: When snow will arrive this week amid Met Office yellow weather warning

It's been a rather chilly start to 2022 with sub zero temperatures set for the weeks ahead.

But now in a weather update for Glasgow, the Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice.

The warning comes into effect on Friday (January 7) from midnight until around 10am with "frequent sleet and snow showers" which could lead to "some difficult driving conditions and disruption to travel."

A statement from the Met Office issued just before 10am this morning reads: "Frequent wintry showers arriving from the west overnight Thursday into Friday are likely to lead to a fresh covering of snow for areas above 200m (mainly around 2-5 cm, possibly as much as 10 cm over highest ground where showers are most frequent).

"Falling snow below this level may cause some temporary slushy accumulations which then may freeze and cause dangerous, icy patches where skies remain clear for long enough.

"These showers will turn increasingly to rain and sleet at lower levels through Friday morning, before steadily easing from the west through the afternoon ahead of an area of rain and milder conditions."

But when is the snow expected to arrive in the city?

According to weather forecasters, snow should start as early as 7am on Thursday (January 6) and stop at 9am.

It will then pick back up again at 9pm where it's set to continue until 12pm on Friday.

Today's maximum temperature will be around five degrees and is expected to drop as low as minus one degrees both today and tomorrow.

So as always wrap up warm, Glasgow. Spring will be here soon and with it, the warmer temperatures.
