Glasgow weather: when heavy snow is forecast to hit the city tonight as severe warning issued

Glasgow has seen short and sweet bouts of snow today - depending on where you are across the city - and there’s more on the way, if the Met Office is anything to go by.

The greater Glasgow area faces a series of yellow weather warnings over the coming days, along with an amber alert for severe snow further along the central belt, in place from 3am on Tuesday.

With snow falling for a short time this morning, along with small flurries throughout the afternoon, many of you may be thinking you’ve had about as much as you’re getting - especially if you’re in the heart of the city.

Follow our LIVE blog here for the latest Glasgow weather news today.

But if the most recent weather forecast is anything to go by then there is more on the way - much of it overnight, meaning you could wake up to a blanket of the white stuff tomorrow.

Fingers crossed, Glasgow! We could probably all use a cheering snow day right about now.

The Met Office predicts snowfall in Glasgow from 6pm, turning heavier at 7, with an 80% chance of wintry showers.

Snow looks set to fall throughout the night, forecast for 8-10pm, 1am and then heavier again from 4am onwards, getting heavier again between 9am and 1pm tomorrow (Tuesday).

Of course, the forecast does have a tendency to change - but with a high chance of more white stuff on the way, and temperatures falling to -1 overnight (followed by a chilly low of -7C the following night), Glasgow could at last get some of the snowfall other areas of Scotland have seen recently as Storm Darcy blows our way.

With Glasgow still in level 4 lockdown, many of you will be working from home if and when the snow hits - but for those of you still heading out on the roads, take care and stay tuned for any major traffic updates as a result of the severe weather warnings in place.

We’ll bring you up-to-date forecasts and all the latest weather warnings as we get them throughout the week, so keep an eye on Glasgow Live or join our traffic and weather Facebook group.
