Glasgow weather: Warning to commuters as snow and ice Met Office alert in place for rush hour

Commuters have been cautioned to expect delays this morning as a weather warning for snow and ice remains in place throughout rush hour.

The Met Office-issued yellow alert forecasts "wintry showers and icy stretches likely to bring some travel disruption".

Roads, rails and bus services are all expected to face some disruption during rush hour, with the warning in place until 10am after coming into effect at 8pm last night.

The weather is expected to improve as the day continues, with bright, sunny skies throughout the afternoon. However, by evening the snow is expected to return as well as rain.

A statement from the Met Office reads: "Wintry showers are expected to continue through Tuesday night and Wednesday morning leaving surfaces wet and leading to icy stretches developing on untreated surfaces. These showers will fall as a mixture of rain, hail and snow at times, the snow mostly over higher ground. Some places are likely to see 1-3 cm of snow, mainly above 200 m, with 4-8 cm possible over the higher ground in northwest England, Wales and west Scotland."

Here's what to expect:

  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
  • Some roads and railways may be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services

Be sure to take care during your morning travels, Glasgow!
