Glasgow weather warning issued for rain as city put on flood alert

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for Glasgow with the city set to be hit by heavy rain.

The yellow warning will be in force from 9pm this evening (Saturday) until 9am on Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) advise Glasgow is on flood alert, with motorists urged to take caution on the roads.

Despite a relatively dry start to Saturday, Met Office forecasters predict the rain will start to fall on the city from around 7pm this evening.

Wind gusts of over 30mph are also expected later in the evening.

Upon issuing the yellow weather warning, which covers most of West Central Scotland, the Met Office say: "Persistent, heavy rain may lead to some disruption, especially to travel."

What to expect

  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
  • Bus and train services may be affected, with journey times taking longer
  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible

SEPA advise: "A spell of heavy rain is expected to affect West Central Scotland from late Saturday through until Sunday morning and this is likely to cause some river and surface water flooding impacts.

"Areas particularly at risk are: low-lying land, roads and parts of the transport network, where difficult driving conditions are likely.

"Some localised property flooding is also possible."
