Glasgow weather warning for thunderstorms issued by Met Office following heatwave

A weather warning for thunderstorms has been issued in Glasgow for tomorrow and Monday.

The yellow warning will come into effect from 9am on Sunday and last for the entirety of the day until midnight. A second warning is then in place for the whole of Monday, beginning at midnight and remaining in place until 11.59pm.

It comes following a wave of hot weather across the country, with temperatures in Glasgow expected to rise to 28 degrees today.

The Met Office has forecast that "hit-and-miss thunderstorms will develop on Sunday, potentially bringing disruption in places".

The warning reads: "During Sunday, cloudier conditions and areas of rain are expected to develop across parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland. Some places missing the worst, while others seem likely to see heavy downpours and thunderstorms.

"These could bring up to around 50 mm of rain falling in 2-3 hours, leading to some disruption, although there will be some drier periods in between. Hail and frequent lightning are potential additional hazards."
