Glasgow weather: warm temperatures and thunderstorms forecast ahead next week

Glasgow has been blessed with some fantastic weather in the past few weeks, with the mercury shooting way past even minimum 'Taps Aff' levels in the city.

Speaking of the weather, we have some good news and some bad news for next week in that it's going to be pretty warm again but we might need to hold off on the socially distanced picnics - unless you have a massive tarpaulin or parasol.

The Met Office weather forecast  for Glasgow predicts highs of 21°, but the warm weather doesn't look like it will translate into wall-to-wall sunshine for the city.

There will be showery spells on Monday and Thursday, with a possibility that these will be occasionally heavy and perhaps thundery in nature too.

The Met Office confirm that between Sunday and Tuesday, the best of the sun and warmest temperatures in the Strathclyde area will be found near the coast.

While, making their predictions for the period Wednesday June 17 to Friday June 26 for the whole of the UK, the Met Office say: "The start of the period will be rather mixed, with all parts of the UK seeing some sunny spells.

"Scattered showers are also possible; however, confidence is low in determining exact areas. The showers may be heavy and merge into longer spells of rain at times with a risk of thunder also, although thunder seems most likely in southern or southwestern parts of the UK.

"The best of the drier and sunnier weather will probably be in the northwest, with a low probability that more widely dry weather could become established.

"Eastern coasts look to be cooler with mist here at the start of the period. Elsewhere though temperatures should be warm or very warm at times."
