Glasgow weather: 'Treacherous ice' and freezing rain warning for city

Glasgow is set to be under a further weather warning today with forecasters predicting the city could be set for 'treacherous ice' and possible freezing rain.

The Met Office have issued a yellow warning which comes into force at 9pm this evening (Saturday) and remains in place for 24 hours.

They advise of the potential for 'significant disruption', including dangerous driving conditions which may lead to crashes as well as a chance of falls on icy pavements and paths.

Meanwhile, Glasgow may experience 'light snow' on Saturday afternoon, with the temperature unlikely to rise above 0c throughout the day.

The Met Office warn: "Treacherous ice may develop, at least in a few places, following freezing rain. Where it occurs, significant disruption is possible."

What to expect

  • There is a chance that dangerous driving conditions may occur in at least a few places, leading to road traffic collisions, road closures and longer journey times by public and private transport.
  • A small chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.
  • A small chance that untreated pavements and cycle paths may quickly become treacherous and possibly impassable.
