Glasgow weather: Thunderstorms forecast throughout the weekend as warning remains in place for Sunday

A weather warning for thunderstorms, heavy rain and potential flooding has been issued for Glasgow this Sunday - but there’s a chance we could be in for some lightning before then.

As reported on Glasgow Live this morning, the latest yellow alert from the Met Office comes into force at noon on Sunday, running until 10pm that night.

The weather warning is for unsettled conditions that could cause some transport disruption and damage to buildings.

But a glance at the latest forecast, as of 5pm today (Friday), suggests that Saturday could also be a stormy one …

The Met Office shows thunderstorms rolling in by 3pm tomorrow (Saturday) and again at 5pm, followed by more on the Sunday.

We may have had a few letdowns in recent weeks, with constant Met Office warnings coming to nothing - but others have paid off, as reported on Glasgow Live earlier this week. Lightning struck Glasgow several times on Tuesday, with the Lightning Tracker App showing hotspots in Giffnock and Ruchill.

And if you haven’t seen it yet then this incredible image, taken by reader Scott Watson in Springburn on Wednesday, is surely proof that those thunderstorm warnings come to fruition now and then.
