Glasgow weather: spring sunshine to mark start of April as city looks forward to dry spell

Forecasters predict Glasgow will enjoy sunny, spring-like weather later this week as we enter April.

That's in stark contrast to the dreich conditions experienced over the last 24 hours which led to the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) issuing a flood alert for west central Scotland.

Glasgow was inundated with heavy rain on Sunday and throughout the night, while there were wind gusts of over 40mph.

The flood warning came following consecutive days of grey weather, which included a belt of hailstones at lunchtime on Friday.

However, the Met Office suggests that after a mix of rain and dry spells at the start of this week, come Thursday, Friday and the weekend we should see sustained periods of sunshine more in keeping with spring.

Yet, despite reports of a 'mini heatwave' in the UK this week and temperatures of 24C down south, it's doubtful Glasgow will heat much above the 12C mark, while the nights could be as cold as 2C.
