Glasgow weather: snow flurries and hail across city ahead of overnight freeze

We may be in the middle of spring, but tonight Glasgow has been hit by snow and hail as temperatures plummet across the country.

Dozens of Glaswegians have taken to social media to share their photos and videos of the snow and heavy hailstones, with further wintry conditions expected this evening and overnight into Tuesday.

Despite the blue skies earlier today, the temperature has failed to get much above 5C and forecasters predict it will chill to -1C overnight.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) will be similarly cool, with the city heating up to just 6C.

The Met Office has issued weather warnings for parts of Scotland for the next two days, with the north of the country worst affected.

For Glasgow, forecasters say: "The Central Belt will stay largely clear and dry. A few snow showers will affect Argyll and the west coast with brisk northerly winds.

"Penetrating frost. Minimum temperature -4°C."
