Glasgow weather: snow and ice warning warning issued by Met Office

A severe weather warning for snow and ice remains in place in Glasgow this morning.

The Met Office-issued yellow alert first came into effect at 10.30am yesterday and will remain in place until 11am this morning.

Residents living in affected areas have been warned to prepare for scattered snow shower, leading to disruption on roads. However, with the country currently under tight lockdown restrictions, fewer people are currently on the roads.

A statement from the Met Office reads: "Scattered sleet and snow showers will continue throughout the day and overnight into Sunday. This will lead to possible lying snow accumulations of 2-4cm at low levels and 5-10cm in higher spots. Icy patches are also likely to form overnight."

The public have been told to prepare for the following:

  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
  • Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services
