Glasgow weather: Snow and ice warning to stay in place today with more disruption expected

A yellow warning for snow is to stay in place throughout today as the city experiences another day of winter weather.

Heavy snowfall continued throughout Tuesday causing disruption to travel and services as Storm Darcy blasted the country with blizzard-like conditions.

The Met Office yellow warning will be in place until midnight with frequent snow showers and ice predicted.

Other than the looming threat of more snow, the day is looking to be bright and sunny - perfect conditions for some outdoor fun. Temperatures will be sitting at around -1° so anyone heading out to enjoy the snow should be sure to wrap up.

However, the public is advised to avoid travelling except for essential journeys as conditions on the roads and railways remain dangerous.

Traffic Scotland has told Scots "if you can enjoy the magic of the snow at home today please do" while Stagecoach said, "we strongly advise against travelling at this time even where a limited-service is operating."

We told yesterday how ScotRail faced major disruption to services to and from Glasgow Central and Queen Street station. A points failure caused by snow at Newbridge is also affecting routes between Glasgow and Edinburgh this morning.

Glasgow City Council made changes to their services in light of the adverse weather. Bulky waste uplift services are currently suspended and some household waste recycling centres were closed.

Around 200 council workers worked throughout the day and night to ensure priority routes are cleared.
