Glasgow weather: severe snow warning for Saturday as 'Beast from the East 2' continues

Glasgow's wintry weather is set to continue into the weekend with news of another snow warning being put in place for this coming Saturday.

'Beast from the East 2' has taken a grip of our city over recent days, prompting Glaswegians to get out their sledges and have fun in the snow.

The snow continues to lie across much of the city and could do for some time yet - temperatures are due to plummet to -4C overnight, which, according to forecasters, could feel as cold as -8C.

And the Met Office have this morning issued a further weather warning for snow and ice this Saturday, covering much of the country, including Glasgow.

Once more the severe weather has the potential to bring substantial danger and disruption to the roads as drivers are urged to take extra caution.

The latest yellow weather warning comes into force at midnight on Saturday and will remain in place until 23.59pm that night.

The current warning ends at 23.59pm this evening (Wednesday).

The Met Office say: "Snow is likely to spread east during Saturday with some accumulations in places and icy stretches. Potential for disruption to travel."

What to expect

  • Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services. Small chance of more prolonged delays with stranded vehicles and cancelled rail and air travel.
  • There is a slight chance that some rural communities could become cut off
  • There is a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected
  • A small chance that untreated pavements and cycle paths become impassable
