Glasgow weather records show city has had only three days above 25 degrees this year

Yesterday in Parliament Nicola Sturgeon recited the Seamus Heaney line “If we winter this one out, we can summer anywhere" to sum up the current situation we find ourselves in in respect of the coronavirus pandemic.

And given the fact Glasgow has had only had three days where the mercury has gone above 25 degrees this year, then we can imagine that the 'anywhere' meant anywhere but here.

Using data site AccuWeather, we've looked back at what 2020 has had in store for Glasgow - as bookies indicate that the UK is on course to be hit by the coldest December on record.

Perhaps surprisingly, there have been over 100 days of the year so far where the weather has been at unofficial 'Taps Aff' levels for Glaswegians of being 15C or above.

However there have only been 32 days when the city has been blessed in temperatures of more than 20 degrees - three days of which saw heat levels surpass 25 degrees.

These were July 31, when the temperature reached an ice-cream melting 27C, with the same temperature reached on August 12 as the weather hovered around 20C in between then.

That leaves the warmest day of the year, June 25, which saw the temperature reaching a balmy 28C - one which meant that it was officially hotter here than in the Costa Del Sol.

It did however still fell 2C short of the 30C witnessed that same day down in Prestwick.

And with the lack of real scorching days here, we don't blame anyone who chooses to 'summer' elsewhere when things hopefully get back to normal again next year!
