Flooding is taking place across Greater Glasgow this morning as the city was hit with heavy rain overnight.

Rail services between Glasgow Central Station and Edinburgh via Shotts have been cancelled due to the conditions, with the rail station at Hartwood having flooded.

The route is expected to remain closed until 12pm today.

A statement from ScotRail reads: "Due to heavy rain flooding the railway at Hartwood the line towards Glasgow is closed. Disruption is expected until 12:00 05/12.

"Train services between Edinburgh and Glasgow Central via Shotts will be cancelled or terminated at and started back from West Calder."

Network Rail also confirmed that flooding is causing delays and cancellations on rails this morning.

They said: "We continue to see flooding on some routes this morning, this is the result of some heavy rainfall since last night. Services running through Livingston North & Hartwood are currently affected. Arrangements for further pumps to be onsite and reduce water levels are underway."

Meanwhile, drivers have also been cautioned to take extra care on the roads due to the weather, with Traffic Scotland stating that "drivers in Glasgow are advised to use caution due to surface water affecting driving conditions".
