Glasgow weather - new Met Office warning for wind with further rain and sleet forecast

Glasgow is under a new Met Office weather warning with our city set to be hit by strong winds this Saturday.

The yellow warning - which covers much of Scotland - came into force at 6am this morning and will remain in place until 10pm tonight.

A further Met Office yellow alert has also been issued for wind on Monday - just in time for going back to work after the weekend.

The weather warning, in place between 9am and 9pm on Monday (February 24), covers much of the central belt and predicts a spell of windy weather and possible travel disruption as a result.

Today, forecasters predict wind gusts of over 45mph, while our city will be hit once more by heavy rain and sleet.

Met Office meteorologist Alex Deakin today said: "Its going to be gusty and blustery across the whole of the country with winds of up 50-60 miles per hour on the west coast.

"A blustery day with showers, with a mixture of rain sleet or snow at times, though the snow will mostly be on higher ground. A cold feel with general temperatures in mid-single figures but feeling colder because of that wind."

Meanwhile, West Central Scotland remains on flood alert after Glasgow was inundated with rain yesterday, causing traffic and travel chaos across the city and in the surrounding area.

The Met Office advise of:

"Strong gusty winds in association with showers may bring some travel disruption."

What to expect

  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
