Glasgow weather: Mini heatwave ahead starting this weekend and stretching into next week

Glasgow is set to enjoy a mini heatwave in the coming days, with rising temperatures and plenty of sunshine.

We'll experience a bit of cloudy start to the weekend tomorrow, with a chance of rain east of Glasgow and a temperature of around 20C. But it's expected to become brighter, especially in the west through the afternoon.

From Sunday, it's a "fine and dry" picture for Glasgow and the west: "Plenty of dry weather with sunny spells" is expected with highs of up to 20C according to the Met Office.

Monday will be brighter with a temperature of around 21C and – wait for it – the mercury will tip at 22C on Tuesday.

Meteorologist Claire Nasir explains: "A ridge of high pressure system moving in means an improving picture from Saturday, with prospects of some sunshine and temperatures a little bit higher."

But she warned that the nights are still to be a wee bit cooler – so remember a layer or two if you're staying out later this weekend.

Here's what the Met Office have so far.

Saturday:

A few spots of rain at first, mainly east of Glasgow, otherwise a dry but rather cloudy morning. Becoming brighter, especially in the west through the afternoon. Northeasterly breeze easing. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Plenty of dry weather with sunny spells through the coming days. It will become increasingly warm with mainly light winds.

Have a closer look at the forecast on the Met Office website.
