Glasgow weather: Met Office yellow warning for snow ice issued for city

A weather alert for ice has been issued for the Glasgow area.

The Met Office has issued the yellow weather warning for the entirety of the Strathclyde region, with the alert coming into place from 9pm tonight until 11am tomorrow morning.

Glasgow city is most likely to experience icy conditions, while higher areas will be hit with snow and sleet.

The city will also see temperatures dip to a freezing 0C tonight, with a maximum of about 5C during the day.

Members of the public have been warned to take care if they are driving on the roads during the weather warning.

Here's what to expect:

  • Some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times.
  • Icy surfaces may make accidents and falls more likely.

A statement from the Met Office reads: "A spell of rain and hill snow is likely to affect many areas, with skies clearing at times to allow icy surfaces, although these won't affect all places. The snow is most likely above 200 metres elevation and probably focused in the north Pennines and into parts of Scotland; here it could affect a few lower lying areas."

Make sure to wrap up warm and take care when you're outside or travelling, Glasgow!
