Glasgow weather: Met Office yellow warning for heavy rain in place for three days next week

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain, strong winds and potential flooding next week.

The alert is in place for three days, running from 6pm on Sunday (July 21) until 6am Tuesday (July 23) - meaning we could be in for a bumpy ride at the start of the week.

The weather warning reads: “A spell of heavy rain is expected across parts of western Scotland which may leave to some flooding and travel disruption.

“Rain will affect western Scotland throughout late Sunday and Monday before clearing on Tuesday morning. This will often be heavy and persistent, especially over hills. Many locations in this region will see 25-50cm of rainfall, with the heaviest rain over high ground where 100-150cm is likely to fall.

“The rain will be accompanied by strong winds, bringing a spell of coastal gales and gusts to around 50mph over hills and headlands.”

The whole Strathclyde region - including Glasgow, East and West Dunbartonshire, North and South Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire - is affected throughout.

At the moment, the forecast shows the heaviest rain hitting Glasgow on Monday - although as ever, that could change.

The temperature will remain humid and sticky throughout, however, with highs of 19-22C expected throughout - rising to 24C by Wednesday, with another cloudy forecast in place.

Stay tuned for more weather updates as we get them, as well as traffic and travel info on any affected roads and public transport.
