Glasgow weather: Met Office warning for ice in place for this morning

A severe weather warning for ice is in place in Glasgow and the surrounding areas today.

The Met Office yellow alert has been in place from 9pm last night and will remain until 11am today.

Forecast predictions read: "A spell of rain and hill snow is likely to affect many areas, with skies clearing at times to allow icy surfaces, although these won't affect all places.

"The snow is most likely above 200 metres elevation and probably focused in the north Pennines and into parts of Scotland; here it could affect a few lower lying areas."

The warning is in place for much of the central belt, as well as large part of northern England.

Residents have been warned to expect the following:

  • Some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times
  • Icy surfaces may make accidents and falls more likely.
