The alert will come into effect at 9am on Thursday (October 29) and will continue until 11.59pm, with the Met Office warning the public, "periods of heavy rain may lead to flooding and disruption to transport ".

The Met Office alert reads: "Periods of heavy rain are expected to develop across Southwest Scotland on Thursday morning and through the afternoon.
