Glasgow weather: Met Office issues warning for rain after temperatures rise to 26 degrees today

If we'll say one thing for Glasgow's weather, it's that it always keeps us on our toes.

At the beginning of the day, we were telling you all to prepare for something of a mini heatwave, as temperatures reached around 27 degrees and the sun shone.

Well, that's all in the past, and now the Met Office has issued a yellow weather alert for rain throughout this evening and into the night. The warning is now in place and will continue through until 11.59pm tonight.

The Met Office statement reads: "Areas of heavy rain have broken out and are moving northeastwards across parts of Scotland this evening. Where heavy rain occurs, 10-20 mm rain is possible in an hour or two and thunder and lightning are possible in a few places too."

Members of the public have also been warned to prepare for the following:

  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely
  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
  • Some interruption to power supplies and other services likely

Oh well, we hope you all enjoyed those few hours of sunshine. Looks like that's all we're getting.
