Glasgow weather - Met Office issues updated yellow weather warning for city

The Met Office has updated a weather warning issued for Glasgow and Strathclyde this coming week.

The warning, which covers much of the west of Scotland, originally came into force at 3pm on Monday (February 3), remaining in place until 11.45pm that night.

However, this has subsequently been extended to run from 12pm on Monday until 9am on Tuesday (February 4).

Wind gusts of over 40mph were to be expected in the city, with the Met Office updating the weather warning to include for gusts in the 55-65 mph range later on Monday and in to Tuesday morning.

Met Office forecasters advise: "A spell of strong winds is likely to cross Scotland between Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning, potentially bringing travel disruption".

Meanwhile, they have advised people what the expect as a result of the (updated) warning:

- There is a small chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris

- There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs

- There is a small chance of longer journey times or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected

- There is a small chance that some roads and bridges could close

- There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage

- There is a small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties
