Glasgow weather - Met Office issues severe weekend warning for rain

It never rains but it pours here in Glasgow.

Well, not quite, as we've been enjoying a wee bit of respite from the downpours over the past few days, with sunshine spells dominating the weather in Scotland's biggest city since last weekend.

But that's all about to change this weekend, as a severe weather warning for rain has just been issued by the Met Office.

The yellow alert will come into force from 12pm tomorrow (Friday) and will last until the next day, when it's due to be lifted on Saturday at 3pm.

The Met Office say the warning will affect most of Scotland.

Here in Glasgow we're told to prepare for the possibility of flooding and disruption to travel.

The Met Office foreacast for the weekend reads: "An area of heavy rain is expected to become slow-moving across much of Scotland, especially affecting western and central hills."

And they say that means:

  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely
  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer

And after the heavy rain we're told to expect the sunshine to return on Saturday night and Sunday, though it will be cloudy and pretty mild, with temperatures of around 15C and scattered showers.

The Met Office forecast for the weekend reads: "Windy with some heavy rain developing on Friday. Wet start Saturday then sunshine, scattered blustery showers for the rest of the weekend."
