Glasgow weather – Met Office issues another weather warning for thunderstorms

Another yellow warning has been issued as hot weather is set to spark thunderstorms across greater Glasgow.

The Met Office predict scattered thunderstorms are likely to break out from tomorrow afternoon onwards and expected to continue overnight.

The city is expected to experience temperatures as high as 29C degrees tomorrow as the UK braces itself for the 'hottest day ever'.

The alert is in place between 3pm tomorrow and 4am on Friday morning and will affect areas just outside Glasgow – with parts of Lanarkshire such as Cumbernauld, Coatbridge, Larkhall and Stonehouse falling within the zone.

The Met Office has warned of possible powercuts as a result of the thunderstorms, while travel disruption also could be experienced.

It comes after lightning strikes were detected in the east end of Glasgow as well as in Renfrew shortly after 5am this morning.  The yellow warning remained in place until 9am.

Mobile App Lightning shows the point of impact, with one lightning strike hitting Easterhill Street, in Tollcross, and another in Uddingston.

Meanwhile, lightning also struck in Renfrew, close to Glasgow Airport .

However, Glasgow got off relatively lightly in terms of the extreme weather in comparison to the rest of Scotland, with dozens of lightning strikes felt in the Cairngorms and off the coast of Aberdeen.

The whole of the UK is in the grip of a sweltering heatwave, with possible record temperatures being set down south.

A health warning has also been issued and people are asked to watch out for 'the most vulnerable' who may struggle in the soaring temperatures.
